Spitfire Wing Mission
Pack (Ver. 1.1)
by
Cliff Burgess
This
is a package of 26 missions for CFS3 which, if flown in chronological
order, are meant to provide a mini-campaign which follows historical
events. The missions trace the experiences of a hypothetical spitfire
pilot from midsummer 1942 through to autumn 1943. |

There are two versions of the install program. One installs missions which use default planes only. The other installs missions which use the 1% planes (obtained from the site http://www.avhistory.org). If you want to fly both, just run both installers. The update from v1.0 to v1.1 is to convert the 1% missions to the avhistory planes from the no-longer-available beta versions which were used in the original missions, and which were located at the mudpond site. Also included are multiplayer versions of a few of the missions which remove the long flights before the action. WHAT NEEDS INSTALLING: There are missions and spawn files, which are put into their proper places by the install program. No other 3rd party planes, weather or scenery are required, apart from the avhistory planes if you wish to fly the 1% versions. IF YOU FLY THE 1% VERSIONS, here are the planes you will need from the site http://www.avhistory.org: From the British WW2 fighters page you need spitfire
9c HF and from the German WW2 fighters page you need ju88
c6 You
need all of those spits because you progress to later models as time
progresses. http://www.aeroplaneheaven.com as well as Wulfmann's newer ones released with the freeware BoB package (PD_SF_Hurricane, the two Ju-88a's, and two Bf-109e-4's) which may be found at sim-outhouse: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?loc=downloads&page=downloads&FileType=cfs3-complete-aircraft Besides being good to have on their own right, they are among the few planes which will randomly spawn in missions which are set before early 1943. TO FIND THE MISSIONS WHEN PLAYING THE GAME: Go to the Missions tab, and select the Historical missions. The new missions will appear among the missions listed. The historical single-player missions appear with names starting with SW, and the multiplayer missions appear with names starting with SWMP. The 1% missions are also identified in their titles. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: The missions are meant to be historically plausible, and are modelled on a composite spitfire pilot taken from a number of WWII memoirs, includingAll the Fine Young Eagles, by David Bashow; First Light, by Geoffrey Wellum; Spitfire Command, by Group Captain Bobby Oxspring; Spitfire into Battle, by Group Captain W.G.G. Duncan Smith; Spitfire Leader, by Wing Commander Evan Mackie; Wing Leader, by Air Vice-Marshal Johnnie Johnson; Thanks also to hector for pointing out the virtues of making multiplayer versions which don't involve a lot of initial flying. ENJOY! |
